Happy New Year and welcome to my blog, the Key of
Bluegrass. I have been picking mandolin and
singing bluegrass music for going on half a century and just recently retired
from my day job. What was that somebody
said about not quitting your day job?
Hmmm. Play until the money runs
out. Yep, that is what I intend to do, assuming
of course, that my lovely bass-playing wife Andrea goes along with my plan.
Now that I have dedicated myself to being a musician and, as
you will soon realize, a somewhat inchoate music writer, it seems logical to
start a blog. All the cool kids do that,
so I’m told. The real question is why
should you, my potentially loyal reader, be reading this blog?
Well, at a minimum, I hope to present a few observations about
the music that you probably haven’t heard yet.
Perhaps these observations will be controversial and will generate some
interesting discussion. And I will
always do my best to keep a unique perspective on things – one that is at a
minimum different and interesting.
My intent is for this blog to be read by anybody with an
interest in bluegrass music. If you are a musician or a music industry
professional, I hope to present topics of interest to you and might even incite
enough disagreement and vitriol for you to weigh in with a reply. If you don’t (yet) pick or sing, it can be a
catalyst to examine and enjoy additional facets from a musician’s perspective
and perhaps deepen the listening experience.
